Doubles finals set at Canadian Championships

Defending champions Vincent Gagnon and François Viens will face Mike Green and Kris Odegard in the final of the Canadian National Racquetball Championship in Burnaby, British Columbia. Gagnon and Viens needed a tie-breaker to get to the final as Francis Guillemette and Corey Osborne won the first game of their semi-final match on Monday. But the champs came back to win 6-15, 15-13, 11-3.

In the other semi, Green and Odegard defeated the brothers Tim and James Landeryou in two straight games, 15-7, 15-8.

Josee Grand'Maitre and Jennifer Saunders will try to defend their doubles title on Tuesday against Brandi Jacobson Prentice and Frederique Lambert as both those teams won their other matches on Monday defeating the teams of Brigitte Richard and Christine Richardson as well as Murielle Boivin and Valerie Fallu.

Grand'Maitre and Saunders are the veterans, having played together since 2003, winning 6 Canadian national doubles titles, while Jacobson Prentice and Lambert are playing in their first event together.

The Nationals results will be combined with those from the National Team Selection Events held earlier this season to select the players for Team Canada to go to the World Racquetball Championships in South Korea in August.
