PARC - 2011 Pan American Championships continue with no surprises so far

There have been no surprises so far at the XXIV Pan American Championships in Managua, Nicaragua. In fact, almost all of the matches in the preliminary rounds have been two straight games. The exceptions are in two of the women's singles groups.

In Group B, veteran Anita Maldonado, who's been in the top 5 of the women's pro tour, now playing for Puerto Rico has gone tie-breaker in both of her matches. She defeated Carla Muñoz of Chile, 15-12, 14-15, 11-8, but lost to Canadian champion Jennifer Saunders, 15-9, 12-15, 11-1.

In Group F, Jenny Daza of Boliva defeated Canadian born Véronique Guillemette, who's now playing for Argentina, 5-15, 15-7, 11-6, and Yira Portes of the Dominican Republic won a 11-10 tie-breaker against Honduran Karen Kattan, 15-13, 9-15, 11-10.

The preliminary round continues through Tuesday and the elimination round will begin on Wednesday.

The draws from Nicaragua are available on line, and some of the matches can be seen via the Pan American Racquetball Confederation.

Follow the bouncing ball....
