Rojas wins men's singles, Mexico men's doubles at Pan Am Championships

American Jose Rojas won men's singles but lost men's doubles Saturday at the XXVII Pan American Racquetball Championships in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, as Mexico and the USA split the men's gold medals. Rojas defeated Andree Parrilla, 15-4, 15-11, in the singles final to earn his first individual gold medal in international competition.

Rojas had a chance to sweep up the gold medals in Santa Cruz, as he and David Horn were in the men's doubles final, but they lost to Mexicans Daniel De La Rosa and Edson Martinez, 14-15, 15-12, 11-1.

With the win, De La Rosa becomes the fifth player to win Pan Am Championship gold in both singles and doubles, joining Canadian Mike Green, American Bill Sell, Mexican Polo Gutierrez and Bolivian Ricardo Monroy. De La Rosa won the Pan Am Championships singles title in 2011.

The next international event will be the International Racquetball Federation (IRT) World Championships June 14-21 in Burlington, Ontario, Canada.
