WRT 2015 Juarez Open - Round of 16

Seven of the top eight seeds at the World Racquetball Tour (WRT) Juarez Open are through to the quarterfinals. The exception is the player who could be the #1 seed if he weren’t playing in his first WRT event: Alvaro Beltran. Thus, it’s fair to say there have been no big surprises so far in Juarez.

However, there were two tie-breakers in the Round of 16 Friday, as 8th seed Sebastian Franco needed three games to defeat 9th seed Cristian Longoria, the current World Junior U16 Champion, 9-15, 15-12, 11-4.

Fifth seed Alejandro Landa also needed three games to escape veteran left-hander Javier Moreno, 9-15, 15-11, 11-2. Landa will play 4th seed David Horn in the quarterfinals Saturday.

Beltran did have a close match with Jose Daniel Ugalde, but won in two games, 15-11, 15-13. He’ll play 3rd seed Alejandro Cardona in the quarters, as Cardona beat Roland Keller, 15-5, 15-10, in the 16s.

Somewhat unexpectedly, 2nd seed Jack Bredenbeck had an easy time of it versus Felipe Camacho, winning 15-6, 15-4. In the quarters, he’ll play 7th seed Andree Parrilla, who beat Francisco Troncoso, 15-5, 15-2, in the 16s.

The quarterfinals begin at 10 AM CDT Saturday with the semi-finals at 5 and 6 PM and the final at 1 PM on Sunday. The doubles quarterfinals are on Friday, semi-finals Saturday and final on Sunday.
