16th Annual Ghost of Georgetown IRT Preview

The 2015-16 International Racquetball Tour (IRT) kicks off this weekend with the Ghost of Georgetown event in Overland Park, Kansas. With 21 players, it’s not a big draw, but there were 24 players in this event last year, so there are about the same number this year.

When last we saw the IRT, Kane Waselenchuk captured his 10th IRT season ending #1 title on the basis of 10 tournament victories last season, although it wasn’t until the last event that his 10th #1 was assured, as Rocky Carson was #1 for most of last season primarily due to Waseelenchuk being hampered by an inner ear problem that he’s sometimes had in his career.

Carson finished as #2 with three tournament wins and eight runner up finishes. Alvaro Beltran finished #3 and Daniel De La Rosa was 4th helped by his first career IRT win at the New Jersey Open.

They are all in the draw, as well as Ben Croft, who returns to the IRT after having surgery on his right shoulder, and Jose Rojas, who played well in capturing gold in doubles with Jansen Allen at the Pan American Games in July.

Jose Diaz heads the list of players looking to qualify for the Round of 16, but other players to watch in the qualifiers include Felipe Camacho, Matthew Majxner, Brad Schopieray and Mauricio Zelada.
