2017 WRT West Coast Championships - Round of 32

There have been no big surprises through the Round of 32 at the World Racquetball Tour (WRT) West Coast Championships in Concord, California, but there are some interesting Round of 16 matches still to played on Friday.

WRT #1 Alejandro Cardona won his first match against Tim Prigo, 15-9, 15-7. He’ll face Victor Camacho in the 16s, as Camacho defeated Alexi David Cocco Hayes, 15-4, 15-6. A win for Cardona there, and he could face young Christian Longoria in the quarterfinals, as Longoria beat Mauricio Zelada in the 32s, 15-5, 15-4, in what we imagined would be a closer match.

Fourth seed Jaime Martell defeated Hanzel Martinez, 15-4, 15-1, but now plays Jose Diaz in the 16s, as Diaz beat Freddy Flores, 15-9, 15-2. The winner of will probably play Rodrigo Montoya, who won the last WRT event. Any of those three could be in the semi-finals.

Andree Parrilla, the 3rd seed, bested Christian Wer, 15-7, 15-0, and faces Felipe Camacho in the 16s, as Camacho defeated Danny Lavely, 15-14, 15-5. Also in that bracket, Jake Bredenbeck will play Miguel Rodriguez Jr. in the Round of 16.

Finally, WRT #2 David Horn plays US Junior Team member Mauro Rojas in the 16s, as in the 32s, he beat Jose Perez, 15-1, 15-8, and Rojas defeated Israel Torres, 15-14, 15-4. The winner of Horn-Rojas faces the winner of Alejandro Landa and Gerardo Franco in the 16s.

You can watch action from Concord live via the WRT website beginning with the quarterfinals on Saturday.
