Mercado reaches final of WRT 2017 Midwest Championships

Mario Mercado had one of the most remarkable comebacks you’ll ever see in the semi-finals of the World Racquetball Tour (WRT) Midwest Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota Saturday, as he lost the first games to top seed Alejandro Cardona, and was down 10-0 and 14-5 in game two. Yet Mercado came back to win game two, 15-14, and then take the tie-breaker, 11-6. The win puts Mercado in the final against 2nd seed David Horn, who defeated 3rd seed Jaime Martell, 15-9, 15-9, in the other semi.

Horn will have a chance to win two titles Sunday, as he and Andree Parrilla are in the final of Men’s Doubles also. Horn and Parrilla defeated Felipe Camacho and Christian Longoria, 7-15, 15-8, 11-7, in one semi-final, while Cardona and Gerardo Franco needed only two games to beat Martell and Mercado, 15-12, 15-2.

You can watch the finals live from Minneapolis via the R2 tournament page beginning with the singles final at 11 AM on Sunday morning with the double final immediately following the conclusion of the singles final.
